Soup’s on
I’m snowed in. In Seattle of all places. I’ve lived a good chunk of my life in the midwest, and snowed in means 3 feet of snow (falling all at once) and, perhaps, 30 below. Here, it’s a few inches and 27 degrees. But Seattle is not prepared for that kind of weather. And truly, I’m not complaining. The snow is beautiful, and I’m enjoying a lovely day at home.
I’ve got soup on the stove, a wonderful recipe I’ve wanted to try called “poor man’s bouillabaisse” (poached eggs instead of shell/fish, but all of the wonder of olive oil, saffron, thyme, and orange peel), a glass of wine in hand, and a fire in the fireplace (how did I ever survive without a fireplace?), and some of my favorite music blasting through the house (how I love “Play That Funky Music, White Boy”).
As a friend said, “Less a snow storm than a peaceful winter event.”
Join the club, kiddo! Madison already is approaching 40 inches since late October. 10.4 inches fell yesterday and seven more are expected tonight with wind chills of -25 below by morning. Last year Madison had 101.4 inches (the old record was 79) and we are well above that pace so far in 2008-2009. Aside from that, I wish you a tender and heartfelt merry holidays. The fireplace sounds lovely, indeed!
